What Microsoft Fabric Brings

Fabric replaces a collection of separate tools with one service, billed as one capacity, governed in one place.

One copy of your data

OneLake stores your data once, in an open format, and every Fabric workload reads the same copy. No more copying data between tools.

Every workload in one place

Pipelines, notebooks, lakehouses, warehouses and real time analytics share one workspace, one security model and one bill.

Power BI built in

Reports read straight from OneLake with Direct Lake, so dashboards stay fast without scheduled imports.

Governed from the start

Access rules, lineage and sensitivity labels are set once and follow the data, so you always know who can see what.

How We Help

Wherever you are with Fabric, we start there.

Readiness

Know before you commit

We review your sources, reports, skills and licences, check which Fabric features are available in your region, and give you a roadmap, a capacity recommendation and a business case.

Migration

Move without losing a number

We migrate from Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, SQL Server warehouses, SSAS cubes, Qlik and QlikView, and Power BI Premium capacity, with every figure reconciled before you switch over.

Design and build

Built to last

We design your lakehouse and warehouse in medallion layers (Bronze, Silver, Gold), with naming standards, lineage and documentation, so the platform is easy to trust and to extend.

Optimisation

Get more from what you have

Already on Fabric? We audit and document your environment, tune slow pipelines and models, and show where you can save capacity.

Licensing and Capacity, Explained

Fabric licensing is simpler than it looks once the pieces are clear. We work out the right mix for your organisation before you buy anything.

Fabric capacity

You buy a capacity (sizes F2 up to F2048) that every Fabric workload shares. Pay as you go can be paused when it is not needed; a yearly reservation costs less for steady use.

Power BI licences

People who build and share reports need a Power BI Pro licence. On capacities smaller than F64, people who only view reports need one too; from F64 upwards, viewers can use a free licence.

Moving from Power BI Premium

Microsoft is retiring Power BI Premium capacity (P SKUs) as agreements end. We move your workspaces to the matching Fabric capacity (P1 matches F64) and check every report afterwards.

Sized to your use

We measure your real workloads, start at the size you need and scale as usage grows, so you never pay for capacity you don’t use.

Your Data, Kept in Country

Where your data lives matters as much as what it does.

Hosted where you are

Every Fabric workload is available in Microsoft’s South Africa North region (Johannesburg) and in its UK South and UK West regions, so your capacity and the data in OneLake can stay in your own country.

POPIA and UK GDPR in mind

We design access rules, sensitivity labels and audit trails so you can show where personal information is stored, who can see it and how it is used.

Your rules, enforced

Row level security, workspace roles and data masking keep each team to the data it should see.

Checked for your region

Some new Fabric features reach South Africa and the UK later than other regions. We confirm what is available for your tenant before we design around it.

Microsoft Fabric FAQ

The questions we hear most from organisations looking at Fabric.

Who are Microsoft Fabric partners in South Africa and the UK?

Microsoft lists its partners in the Microsoft partner directory. Insight Consulting is a Microsoft partner with offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Watford, assessing, migrating, designing and optimising Microsoft Fabric platforms for organisations in South Africa and the UK.

Is Microsoft Fabric available in South Africa and the UK?

Yes. Every Fabric workload is available in Microsoft’s South Africa North region (Johannesburg) and in UK South and UK West. South Africa West (Cape Town) currently offers Power BI only.

Can our data stay in our own country for POPIA or UK GDPR?

Your Fabric capacity, and the data stored in OneLake, can sit in South Africa North for South African organisations or in a UK region for UK organisations. We design access rules, labels and audit trails so you can show how personal information is protected.

Do we have to replace Power BI to use Fabric?

No. Power BI is part of Fabric. Your reports keep working, and they can read data straight from OneLake with Direct Lake.

Which Fabric capacity do we need?

It depends on your data volumes, refresh schedules and how many people view reports. We measure your workloads in the readiness assessment and recommend a size you can scale up or down.

We are on Power BI Premium. What happens next?

Microsoft is retiring Power BI Premium capacity as agreements end. We plan the move to the matching Fabric capacity and check every report afterwards.

Can you migrate us from Qlik to Fabric?

Yes. We work in both Qlik and Microsoft, so we understand what your Qlik apps do today and rebuild them on Fabric and Power BI with every number reconciled.
